My 1-Minute Wednesday series pairs a brief piece of music with a piece of thought-provoking text.
This piece is a form of life affirmation. I often battle bouts of low energy, when Motivation has fled and Apathy has me in a chokehold. Whatever course we take, the solution is never to wait for motivation’s return. We might as well wait for Godot.
We think we need energy to act. But the opposite is equally true. Action generates energy. Objects at rest tend to stay at rest unless acted upon by an outside force. Thankfully, as sentient beings, we can act upon ourselves to rev the engine back up.
Sometimes we need a break, yes. Rest is good. Wallowing is not. The best cure for apathy is action. Getting the heart pumping again brings life back to our sunken limbs.
Life is motion. Only in death are we still. Until then let us dance bravely forward.
“Don't loaf and invite inspiration; light out after it with a club, and if you don't get it you will nonetheless get something that looks remarkably like it.” – Jack London
