FAQs

Wedding Guitar FAQ

What sets you apart from other wedding guitarists? With more than 15 years of experience as an award-winning guitarist and composer, I bring to my wedding performances a level of artistry and professionalism that couples notice from the first inquiry to the last song. My playing is refined and expressive, elevating your day rather than blending into the background. Clients consistently point to the quality of the performance, the reliability, and the care I put into every detail of the planning process.

Why book an instrumental guitarist for a wedding? Live acoustic guitar creates a romantic, sophisticated atmosphere without overwhelming the room. It lifts the emotional tone of key moments—the processional, the cocktail hour, the first dance—while staying warm and unobtrusive. Instrumental acoustic guitar encourages guests stay present with each other and the celebration rather than tracking lyrics or volume.

Do you sing? I don’t sing. My instrumental performances are elegant and unobtrusive, enhancing your ceremony or reception without competing with it. If you’d like vocals incorporated, I’m happy to refer you to professional singers I work with or collaborate with a vocalist of your choosing.

What genres of music do you play? My repertoire spans modern pop, classic rock, romantic standards, classical, film scores, jazz, bossa nova, folk, and more—all arranged for solo acoustic guitar. The result is a cohesive sound that feels intentional rather than shuffled and adapts easily to the style of your wedding.

What songs are in your repertoire? My list is extensive and continuously updated, covering popular artists, timeless classics, and instrumental arrangements of well-known songs across many genres. View the full song list here: https://bit.ly/RDKing_Repertoire

What parts of the wedding can you perform? I can provide live acoustic guitar music across every part of your wedding day, including: •Prelude music as guests arrive •Wedding ceremony (processional, recessional, and interludes) •Cocktail hour •Reception dinner and ambiance •First dances (custom arrangements available) This flexibility means your entire day can feel musically cohesive.

What size weddings and venues do you service? I’ve performed at weddings ranging from intimate gatherings of 10 to celebrations of 250 or more, in venues across Massachusetts and New England. My setup works equally well indoors and outdoors and is designed to fit cleanly into any space.

What equipment do you provide? I bring everything needed for professional sound, including a premium acoustic amplification system (Fishman) and a battery-powered amplifier for outdoor or off-grid locations. The setup is compact and unobtrusive—you’ll hear the music clearly without seeing a tangle of equipment.

Can you provide amplification for the ceremony officiant? Yes—I can provide a microphone and basic amplification for the officiant upon request, which is a practical option for couples who want a single, streamlined audio setup for the ceremony. Please inquire.

How far do you travel for weddings? I’m based in the Boston area and regularly perform throughout Massachusetts—including the North Shore, South Shore, Cape Cod, and MetroWest—as well as across New England. Destination weddings are welcome; please share your venue location and I’ll provide travel details upfront.

Can you learn a custom song for our ceremony? Yes—I can create a custom instrumental arrangement of any song that’s meaningful to you. A live guitar arrangement of a song you love makes for a far more personal moment than a recording. Please provide advance notice to allow time for arranging and rehearsal.

Do you have liability insurance? Yes. I carry full liability insurance, as required by most venues in Massachusetts and New England. I will provide documentation to your venue upon request.

Pricing & Packages FAQ

How much do you charge for weddings in the Boston area? Pricing varies based on coverage and performance time. My packages start at $1,295 for ceremony or cocktail hour music, with bundled options for couples who want coverage across more of the day.

What wedding packages do you offer? I offer four packages, with the option to customize: •Ceremony Package – $1,295: Includes prelude music as guests arrive, processional and recessional music, and custom song arrangements. •Cocktail Hour Package – $1,295: A curated setlist of live acoustic guitar music to create a relaxed and elegant atmosphere. •Perfect Day Package – $1,795: A combination of ceremony and cocktail hour coverage at a bundled rate. •Complete Package – $2,595: Full-day music coverage, from early moments like the first look through cocktail hour and beyond. Custom formats are also available depending on your wedding timeline and vision.

Which package is most popular? The Perfect Day Package, which combines ceremony and cocktail hour coverage, is the most popular choice—a seamless musical thread through the two most intimate parts of the day, at the best overall value.

Can we customize a wedding music package? Yes. If none of the standard packages fit your timeline or vision exactly, I’m happy to build something custom. Most adjustments are straightforward; just let me know what you have in mind.

Are there any additional costs to consider? A few add-ons may apply depending on your needs: •Travel: $100 per 50 miles from Boston •Additional performance time: $125 per 30 minutes •Microphone rental for officiant: $250 Everything is discussed upfront—no surprises on the invoice.

Do you require a deposit to book? Yes, a deposit is required to hold your date. Dates are first-come, first-served, and popular weekends (especially spring through fall) book up quickly.

How far in advance should we book? Book as early as possible. Most couples book 6 to 12 months out, particularly for spring and fall weekends. If your date is coming up sooner, it’s still worth reaching out; I’ll let you know right away what’s available.

What’s included in the Ceremony Music package? The Ceremony Package covers everything for your ceremony: prelude music as guests arrive, the processional, the recessional, and any interlude moments. Custom song arrangements are included, so the music feels personal rather than off-the-shelf.

Can you provide music for the entire wedding day? Yes—the Complete Package is built for that. It covers the full arc of the day, from early moments like the first look through the ceremony and cocktail hour, with live acoustic guitar throughout.

Is live acoustic guitar worth it for a wedding? Live acoustic guitar brings something recorded music simply can’t—presence, warmth, and a sense that this moment was made for you. Couples often tell me it was one of the details their guests mentioned most. Whether it’s the processional or the cocktail hour, live music changes the feeling of a room.

You’re in good hands. Literally.
