Heartstring [1-Minute Wednesday #6]
My 1-Minute Wednesday series pairs a brief piece of music with a piece of thought-provoking text.
HEARTSTRING
Love binds us beautifully both romantically and platonically, drawing us out of ourselves and into the arms of others. A loveless life is cold and dead; our highest selves thrive on connection, compassion and empathy.
These feelings flow most readily towards those closest to us. Yet we can be reluctant to open our hearts even just a few degrees of separation away.
Love is an infinite resource—we can care deeply for as much of the world as we are willing to. Instead of draining us, acts of compassion replenish the wellspring of the soul.
After a lengthy hibernation, our hearts need something to thaw their icy encasements. Art can be that catalyst.
I wrote Heartstring as a reminder to myself to be gentler and kinder to the people around me. The empathetic, compassionate, connective choice is always there. Let’s take the more loving path together.
Go forth with love and kindness. Happy Valentine’s Day.
