BEYOND ALL REASON
I cannot help but find myself transfixed by what an absolutely fantastical experience life is. Although I lose myself in mundanity, some days (like today) it is almost impossible for me to have any thoughts whatsoever aside from awe. We can only experience the tiniest sliver of existence, and even that is magical in its depth and beauty. Our understanding even of our own workings is microscopic. Each blink of the eye, each curl of the finger, is a total mystery to us. We can do it, but we certainly couldn’t explain how.
But if the simplest motion is inexplicable, what of the most giant of human accomplishments? What of our spiraling patterns of art and science? People have dedicated their entire lives to searching for beauty, meaning, significance. We are driven by a need to understand, a compulsion to tell stories about our world.
But all the narratives, logic, and reasoning cannot capture this world. Even if words could explain it all, our minds are surely too limited to comprehend it. So instead we are left to navigate a world which feels so alien, yet somehow like home. Sentient, yet asleep. Alive, yet somber. Here, and not.
