My 1-Minute Wednesday series pairs a brief piece of music with a piece of thought-provoking text.
Accepting this moment means accepting it all: the world as it is and yourself as you are. It’s hard to say which is more daunting. I believe these are more related than meets the eye. It’s difficult to love the world if you don’t love yourself – and the reverse is true as well.
I feel resistance towards accepting a world in which so much is wrong, or myself as a desperately imperfect human. It feels like a surrender. Shouldn’t we fight against our inner demons, or those of the world? Yes. But embracing this moment, the world, and ourselves does not mean stagnation. Instead it means we are more alive and able to react to life as it meets us. The challenges that face the world necessitate people who can bring their full selves to the arena.
I used to be afraid that accepting myself as I am would mean the end of personal growth. But the moments in which I am closest to self-love are those in which I am most able to grow. May we all find more of that acceptance – for each other and for ourselves.
Do you struggle with accepting yourself as you are? If you have any ideas of your own, please share them with me below or at firstname.lastname@example.org. Or find me on Facebook or Twitter.
